The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) The Ku Klux Klan is one of America’s oldest and most feared groups. Motivated by the dream of a world with only one race, the KKK uses violence and moves above the law to support their cause. They have been in the shadows for over 130 years and continue to succeed in America’s society today. The Ku Klux Klan began almost by accident during the rebuilding process after the civil war in the Southern United States. The southern people had suffered allot from the effects of the great war. Many of them lost their homes and plantations, many also lost friends and loved ones to the war. A leader was soon needed to control the large group. Their first choice was Southern General Robert E. Lee. Although he supported the group and its cause, he was very ill and could not handle the task. Their next choice was a man named Nathan Bedford Forrest. He was quickly accepted as the Grand Wizard. He had absolute power over the Klan members. The men were eager to do what he said, they trusted him. Many of the men were in need of a sense of belonging and the KKK gave them this. The Klan was very secretive, all of the members were safe from people knowing their real identities. Because of this secrecy, they gained the alternate name of, The Invisible Empire. The Klan really began to take control in the year of 1868. They promised to rid the south of anyone who didn’t support them. They stole the peoples goods, beat them and even killed them. These murders were known as lynching. They would drag the person to the center of the town and hang them in front of everyone. This was very effective, people feared it would happen to themselves if they had anything to do with the blacks. After the U.S. government removed troops from the South in the late 1800’s, the Klan achieved its goal. Many of the groups moved on and Forrest left the Klan. Book report on The Daughters of Eve by Lois Duncan

There are many characters in the story, Daughters of Eve. There are only five that stand out from the rest. These five are Laura Snow, Jane Rheardon, Fran Schneider, Tammy Carncross, and Irene Stark. These are the main characters in the story. They are all members of the club, Daughters of Eve. Laura Snow was a junior in high school. She was a nice girl with glowing eyes. She also loved this boy in high school named Peter Grange. He went out with her for a while, but in pity. Her parents were divorced, and she lived with her mother in the town of Modesta. Although everyone liked her, she hated herself. She thought of herself as a 160-pound lump with a bust that looked like twin watermelons and a rear that looked like twin†¦show more content†¦Tammy s dad was a loving father and a devoted science teacher. He never did anything wrong. Dave was Ann s fiancà ©. Ann was a member of the daughters of eve. He loved Ann so much. She was a good artist. When they got married he made her an art studio, so she can do what she loves to do. The second theme of the story is to always trust your instincts. In the story, Tammy had a feeling that something was going to go awfully wrong that semester in the Daughters of Eve. She ignored her instincts and still joined the club. Well, turns out that Irene tells them to get revenge on people. The first revenge was on Peter and they beat him up badly in a dark ally. When Tammy realized that they were going to do this more than once, she quit. If she had trusted her instincts from the beginning she wouldn t have hurt anybody. Lois Duncan has many strength in the story Daughters of Eve. One of them is her great use of metaphors and similes. Holly Underwood sat with her eyes closed, listening to her mother at the piano building Debussy s castle note by silver note to the height of the stars. Answer: Introduction When the project methodologies are not properly followed and maintained project management issues aroused which lead to the failure of the project [1]. This report will highlight GEs project failure, the project management problems and causes, one who should pay for the changes have been showcased along with the recommendations. Frank Billings was passionate about rapid prototyping manufacturing while he was a student. Later though he got a job at Cocable Company and was doing well, he was not satisfied with his work. He left the job and planned to start his RP business. In the mean, while he got an offer from Cocable Company that he would have to build rapid prototyping machines for GE on behalf of Cocable Company. He started his work and finished well, but unfortunately, the project failed at the time of testing. The lessons learnt from this scenario by analyzing a list of project management problems and the causes behind that No clear objectives: Frank was in charge to deliver the rapid prototype machines for the smooth functioning of the CAD model of 48 inches long though the goal to modelled the machines for 62 inches. Change of scope in between: Initially Frank was provided with the CAD model of 48 inches long but during testing, he was provided with the CAD model of 62 inches long [4]. iii. Lack of Professionalism: Both GE and Cocable are showing lack of professionalism and they both are not ready to take the blame for the project failure that will definitely result in adverse effects. Risk Management issues: Both the companies have no backup plan, there is no risk management at all [3]. It is the responsibility of the project manager to accumulate all the inputs, makes a proper plan, progress according to the plan and finally executes the project. No clear plan: GE has no fixed plan or fixed goal regarding the CAD model. Lack of Communication: GE should make contact with Frank and discuss the details and lack of communication results in disaster. vii. Cocables confusion: They stated that got the specimens from GE which were of maximum length, but GE refused that the specimens sent to Cocable were not of maximum length, but some samples [8]. Frank unaware of the fact built according to the specimens sent by Cocable. GE at first sent 48 inches CAD model then sent 62 inches CAD model while testing that shows they have no clear objective and they are inattentive. After the project failure, they are not willing to take the blame, this kind of attitude is the main reason for unproductivity [5]. iii. GEs project manager must have proper risk management, after the project failure they have no clue what so ever, that is the reason why the project failed to deliver. GE has to communicate with Frank about the details, or else they should have explained the project elaborately to Cocable, but they did not do that, that is the another reason for project failure [2]. Cocable should have communicated with GE and made a secondary check of all the specifications they got but they did not do that that is the reason the project failed. None of the three- Frank, GE and Cocable has followed the project methodologies that are the reason for project failure. The organization or individual who is responsible to pay for the changes For the project mishaps, two risks have been evolved- The deadline for the project will have to be extended. The project will now be very expensive. GE, Cocable and Frank have not followed the project methodologies that are why the project fails, so three of them are responsible. Since it is GEs project and they have to take the initiative [7]. Now they are in an ethical dilemma, they can trust and can give Cocable another opportunity to prove their worth. GE can make the whole project executed from another company. In the second case, GE will have to bear the extra cost or extra expenses [6]. Recommendations They should have adopted a project methodology model and should have followed the model strictly, they could have followed follow the agile project methodologies. At first, GE should have listed all the requirements and then should have delivered the RP machines and CAD models to Cocable. Secondly, in turns Cocable should send the deliverables to GE, this deliverable could be the asset in this mishap. Frank should work only based on the deliverables. He got four RP machine, he should have completed one and made a partial submission to GE on behalf of Cocables. This could have saved both time and money for everyone. GE could ensure their project is progressing well and would be well delivered within the stipulated time or within the stipulated deadline. In this way, Cocable can earn GE's trust and hence this, in turn, can help them in future prospects. In this scenario, the CAD model confusion can be solved at the initial phase, but now since the project failed, all of them should lea rn from the mistakes and from now onwards they should follow the project methodologies properly. Conclusion It can be concluded from the above discourse that the GE, Frank and Cocable must follow the project methodologies to avoid any mishaps in the project in future. This report highlighted all the project related problems, the reasons also have been showcased for the project methods' failures. It has also been stated in the report about who should pay for the project failure. Finally, the measures have been grandstand in the report which shows that by adopting the project methodologies the project methodologies could have been mitigated. Human Growth Development Essay Erikson believed personality development was an ongoing process affected by social and cultural events in which a state of maturity is aspired to. Stage 1 The infancy stage covers the childs first one and a half years, where primary care givers need to maintain a nurturing environment in order for the child to develop trust. Stage 2 The anal-muscular stage from eighteen months to four years sees the child enter a phase where a level of independence is achieved. Stage 5 From the ages of approximately 14-20 years the young person enters adolescence where a sense of role identify is developed with the individual understanding who they are and their place in society. Stage 6 Young adulthood is entered between the ages of 20 35 years where intimate relationships are developed with the expectation of giving and receiving love, and where many couples decide to begin a family. Stage 7 As adults enter maturity (ages 35 65 years) they are seen to develop through guiding their own children. Love, at this stage, is given freely to children without the expectation of receiving it back. Piagets proposed four major stages of development can vary greatly due to the individuality of the child and cultural influences. The first of Piagets developmental stages, Sensorimotor, occurs between the ages of 0 to 2 years in which the child identifies the difference between self and other objects. This is also the stage where a child learns by touch or as Piaget relates touch tutors vision (Butterworth, G. , Harris M. , 1994, p234). The Preoperational stage from 2 to 7 years identifies the period when language is developed. Between 7 to11 years the child is in the Concrete Operational stage where the ability to think logically in regards to events and objects in the here and now is developed. The Formal Operational stage between 12 to 15 years is when the young develop the ability to solve abstract or hypothetical problems. Piagets theory behind these stages was that logical thinking develops slowly with intellectual development being a gradual evolution. When looking at the different theorists perspectives in relation to Human Growth and Development I feel more drawn to the work of Piagets and Eriksson in their acknowledgement of the impact of social factors upon development. There are many social factors that could affect psychological and social development, these may include the social class that a child is reared in; the level of wealth or poverty within the household or surrounding environment; disability of the child or other family members; the ethnic group to which the child or family belong to; gender of the child; religious observances within the family; or abuse towards the child or within the home environment. A subsequent resulting factor could be the affect of living within a different lifestyle to others in the surrounding environment be it relatives, peers, neighbours etc. This could apply to a child or young person who has been raised in a working class environment whose parents decide to send them to a better school. The child could feel very different from others in the school and may feel inadequate in comparing themselves and their families to those at the better school. The young person may then present with low self-esteem or self-worth. When applying social factors to myself I realise that I can relate strongly to Bowlbys theory of attachment and Ericksons eight stages. Sterns theory of attachment at a early age is very significant, but being the middle child of nine and coming from an era and culture where It takes a whole village to raised a child (old African saying) I found it difficult to subscribe to the non-verbal messages that transfers from the child to its primary carer, especially when everyone and anyone could be that primary career. I am the middle child of nine children, my mother worked as a cleaner in the local hospital and my father was a musician who travelled for months on end, they both came over from St. Kitts to England in the late 50s. By the age of 10 my father immigrated to America promising find a job there and take us over but I never saw him again until the day of my mothers funeral when I was 38. There was only three main rules, Love the Lord, Never fight each other and whomever was the eldest in the house at any given time was the person with the responsibilities. Coming from a working class, area and living in a predominantly white community in a time where discrimination was unacceptable but not against the law, I struggled in stages 3 to 5 of Eriksons model. Being Black, female, young and not knowing of my learning disability had a dramatic impact on my self-esteem, confidence, identity, individualism and acceptance within society but not the community I lived in. Within my community, social circle (which in the beginning was predominantly black) we all shared similar or the same stories, it was where I held on to my identity, self-image, confidence, integrity, and faith. I learnt there were good and bad in all people regardless of their race, faith and social background. We had an elderly English neighbour who looked after her disabled daughter, she constantly had us over for tea, and brought us gifts for no reason. I experience a teacher who knew I was constantly being bullied and attacked in the playground, so made me the milk monitor bringing authority and respect from the other children as they had to collect their milk from me.

The Influence of War on Music essays War is perceived by government as a means of solution between opposing nations. Since differences of opinion cause war, of course there will be differing opinions about war. A person in a country, whether directly or indirectly involved, must adept their ways of life according to the war. This could mean adapting to meet the needs of the government in favor of the war, or adapting in a way against the war; devoting their energy in attempt to end it. In America especially, the people use the arts to express their ideas. The most prevalent art form used in uniting masses and speaking out is music. Popular music is usually a direct reflection of the general society at a given period of time. Coming out of the depression, the blues were at their peak. Lonnie Johnson and Louie Armstrong were common voices that spoke to the ordinary man who could closely relate to the soulful melodic ballads. When World War II began, evidence of the war started showing up in the music.
